I was just mopping my kitchen and this thing popped into my head. It is one of my favorite moments of being a mother, one that made me laugh so hard I cried.
Then, I thought, hell, you don't ever blog anything, blog it.
So here it is.
Scene: the day I brought my son home from the hospital, in my living room. The only people home were me, my brand new son, and my daughter who was 2 years and 8 months old. I think I had sent Dan to the pharmacy for pain medicine. Whatever. Derik started crying, so I sat down in the recliner with a pillow and began to nurse him. Things were going well. I was peaceful and happy. Then, Jarikah came waltzing unsuspectingly into the living room to find us. As she turned the corner, she stopped in her tracks and stared for a few seconds. Then her face turned into this horrible horrorific horror, and she exclaimed, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"
I answered, "Feeding Derik."
Her face turned even more horribly horrific, and she said, "OUT OF YOUR BOOB?"
I guess I forgot to fully prepare her for getting a new baby.
